One of the biggest issues in deciding if a guitar is a fine, high quality instrument, or future firewood is its playability. Most people don't realize how easy it is to make their guitar play better. It's just a few small adjustments to flatpicking utopia.
First you should check the bow of your neck. Do this by placing a capo on the first fret and hold down the low E string in the fourteenth fret. You should just be able to pass a business card between the 7th fret and the bottom of the string.…

I recently got a banjo for Christmas and it came without an arm rest and had a dent in the drum head so we exchanged it for a new one. The new one has everything with it this time, but from the 12th fret and up it sounds sharp compared to the last one. It's in tune and everything I made sure. Any advice as to what the problem might be?

I have added a Dobro to my dusty instrument collection. I was offered a great bargain and I have learned after years of shopping with my wife, never let a bargain pass.
I can hear her now recanting how she collected a buggy full of junk and saved “$80.00 dollars” in the process. Stuff like that always makes her day.
